PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHICH CLASS YOUR CHILD WOULD BE SUITED TO.
The tennis skills adapted especially for Pre-School 4-5 year olds. Your child will learn the basics through fun activities based on the fundamental ABCs – Agility, Balance, Coordination & Speed plus racket and ball skills to get them started.
Red 3.30pm Wednesdays –
A specially designed class to introduce & progress the basics of tennis to P1-P3 children. Focus is on enjoyment and active social interaction in a safe and healthy environment.
Orange 4.30pm Wednesdays –
A specially designed class to develop the tennis skills of P4-P5 children. The focus is on enjoyment and active social interaction in a safe and healthy environment. Orange tennis balls are used to allow children to develop the skills they acquired at red ball and continue their tennis journey.
Green / Yellow 5.30 Wednesdays –
A specially designed 1 hour class to develop the tennis skills of P6-P7 children who will be moving on to Yellow Ball. Green & yellow tennis balls are used to allow children to develop their skills and continue their tennis journey to Yellow Ball.
Yellow Ball represents the final stage in the junior tennis journey and the first step on the lifelong journey of trying to master the game of tennis. Juniors will, at this 1 hour class, develop the skills they have learned in Mini Tennis and add in some matchplay and more technical/tactical coaching to speed their development. As always the focus is on fun and social interaction but with a leaning towards the Pathway 2 Performance coaching should the children wish it.
Adult Cardio Tennis – Tuesdays 6.30 – 7.15
These adult sessions, based on member feedback, will focus on cardio each week and provide the opportunity to improve fitness while focusing on tennis specific exercises.
Adult ‘Hitting’ Session – Tuesdays 7.30 -8.30
Purely based on member feedback the one thing we get asked for more than anything is awareness of technical hints and tips while hitting a lot of balls.
This 1 hour class will be run by Coach Iona but the lights will stay on (free of charge!) for a further 30 minutes matchplay to try out the tactics learned.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
That was a quite a match. Our intrepid warriors combined forces, boy/girl, boy /girl, boy /girl to face the mighty GU Staff team that were visiting the sunny climes of the Cardross riviera
It’s the same format as a league match. 3 couples playing 3 sets with the first to get 5 in the bank the winners. Sounds easy doesn’t it?
Seemed very easy when it was just over half way through the night. Jamie & Carolyn at first were in a great game. They both appeared to be be playing brilliantly and secured the first set for the home team. Euan & KT were 4-1 up and Happy Gould and Cazza McD had taken the first set. All in the garden was rosy.
Just as the President was reaching for a celebratory slim panatella it all started to fall apart like an ASDA shirt…..
KT & Euan got clawed back and the first set slipped away 5-7 and the 2nd set slipped away 4-6 as well. Happy & Cazza tucked away set 2 but were in a war in set 3 and Jamie & Carolyn continued to play brilliantly and won the 2nd set.
So we had 4 sets in the bag and things were looking good but they were seriously tight sets. It’s fine we thought. KT & Euan put their foot on the gas and were 5-2 up. The other two matches were very tight final sets which could go either way. But we’d be fine right? 5-2 is fine right?
Jamie & Caroline got edged on a tie break in set 3. There couldn’t be many complaints really. Whitewashing the first couple would have been very harsh given the standard of play on show. 4-3 Cardross with 2 sets still active.
KT & Euan had a chance to serve it out. The GU lady had worked out the 20mph serve and was very adept at rifling it right back to where it started.
Suddenly it was 5-5 in this set and down in Happy Valley Happy & Cazza were a set point down. 6-6 5-6 on the tie break when they found some inner strength to save the set and then hit some great shots to see them through 8-6 on the tie break to complete a three set victory.
So that was us. We were home and dry. Word hadn’t quite filtered through to the faraway court 2 and the relief of our warriors was palpable when they got word we had 5 sets banked. The final set slipped away and a 5-4 victory was the final outcome. I’m not sure the players knew how close we had come to defeat with the set point that Happy saved by tenderly shouting at Caroline to ‘ LEAVE IT’ when she was just about to play a patented shoulder high baseline volley.
This was a great match and a great victory. Well done to all. The assembled masses really enjoyed it……
Next up is the semi final on the 1st August.
It’s that time again. The now annual Tennis Club quiz & games night which has been so popular in previous years returns for 2018.
Can you put together a team of 6 to conquer the previous champions?
Can you score maximum points on Pete Sullivan’s music round?
Can you answer any of Rob’s questions correctly?
Can you get closest the hole to win a prize?
The only way to find out is to dig out your £4p/p and come along.

Clubhouse Use – Sunday 1st April
Just to let members know we have given permission to one of our local junior Football teams – Ardencaple FC – to use the clubhouse for an after match tea on Sunday.
They are playing a visiting team from the USA so it promises to be a good game of soccer.
There’s obviously no impact on the courts but if you see lots of young footballers milling about then that’s the reason why.
