The Gents 3rd team impressed again on Wednesday with their third complete shut out of the opponents in as many games.
This luckless victims this week were a very game Helensburgh M4 and many of the sets were close affairs just swinging in Cardross’ favour on the big points.
Gary Glen and Alan Crossan won their first set on a tie break which seemed to settle their nerves with a first outing on the show court in front of a capacity home crowd weighing heavy on them it seemed. Once free from the shackles of that first set they settled into their game and ran out comfortable 3-0 victors.
The heavy hitting team of Jonny Brown & Max Mckay were, as usual, unleashing the heavy groundstrokes in the second rubber and ran out 3-0 victors against very capable and game opposition.
Court 3 saw the legend that is Raymond Watt and Capt Dobbin combining to see off ‘The Doc’ Ian Evans and a very talented local youngster Andrew Wilson in straight sets 3-0. A bit of a scare in set 3 where the visitors got a 3 set lead but the weight of shots from the home team eventually wore the guys down and six straight games saw them home.
A great effort on a sunny evening in front of a very healthy number of home fans.
Well done team.
